My sister recently graduated from high school and is beginning the journey of adulthood. This new life change for her has gotten me thinking about how fast life goes by.
I've always tried to take a carpe diem approach toward life (seize the day) but it can be hard having such a hectic schedule to keep up with. It's hard to fit in time for adventures or even just unwinding when you're juggling school, a job(s), family, friends, volunteering, and dating. It's a lot to do, and I know when it comes to me, at the end of the night I find myself thinking "where did the time go today".
Below is a list of ways for you to sieze the day while trying to maintain a tight schedule.
Wake up a bit earlier.
Having a nice breakfast is a good way to wake up and relax a bit before the hussel of the day begins. I recommend eating breakfast outside in the morning or with an animal by your side if those are options.
Put the phone down.
Once you purposefully put your phone down for a few hours you will be surprised at how much you use it throughout the day. Be it a quick run through social media or just checking the screen for notifications - leaving the phone out of sight will free up more time than you might think. Also, by not using your phone, you will be able to provide the company you're with at the moment the full amount of attention it deserves.
Write about it.
Everyone who knows me knows how much I praise journaling. The process of writing or typing out your thoughts and activities from the day has the ability to provide some nice daily closure before heading to bed. It can relieve stress, anger, and worry. Not only that, but journaling also allows for you to fully appreciate the day. I've heard of people writing reflections on their graduation day or wedding day but the beauty of journaling is that any date you write about is important and could even mean something to you in the future. There could be an entry in a diary from 6 years exactly before your wedding day or 10 years exactly before your first child was born. It's crazy comparing how far you've come when reading over entries from the past and the present. I highly recommend this.

Watch the sunset for a bit.
People often times do not fully appreciate the beauty of a sunset. Every night God paints a beautiful picture for the world to enjoy. Take a moment to value it and value that you are blessed enough to see another sunset.
Live graciously.
Begin the day with enthusiasm or at least try to look forward to five different moments during your day (the end of the work day not being one of them). If you make each day have value from the beginning, you'll be surprised by how much value it accumulates.
